Blink Twice (2024)

i really want to like this more. for a directorial debut the visual style feels surprisingly well established (the title card drop i genuinely think is an amazing touch), the cast is doing great with what they're given and the suspense and payoff are quite well done. that said the actual script is where it all kinda falls apart for me, the actual twist is predictable from a mile away, the way the more sensitive topics in this are handled is, well, sigh they barely are handled with care and some of the scenes definitely feel like they've been there mainly for shock value, some plot aspects felt underdeveloped and the final scene left a bitter taste in my mouth as the screenplay basically chose the "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" route of concluding this movie which i don't feel like appropriately wraps up the movie especially given how messed up the final act has overall been. just, i don't know, the script was derivative but that's not even the problem the problem mostly is that it just didn't fully add up so the final thought i just ended up having was that the message this movie wanted to portray was "men bad" and nothing more nuanced than this and it's kinda a shame
