hardest movie title of the festival. a spiritual journey through growing up in Lesotho. stunning visuals and sound make the experience but a script that left me a little bit lost as it jumps across generations and characters but still in awe of the world it creates. not much more to say about this except for it being a really unique aesthetic experience.

a documentary about italian music traditions, old instruments and songs passed down generation to generation. a very unexcited look in portrait view at the people still practicing these traditions, this is a very slow movie to its core. an interesting topic that is being talked about in-depth (this movie clocks in at 2 hours) but unfortunately failed to compel me in its clear yet dry interest in the subject matter.

permanent Berlinale guest Hong Sang-soo is back again, although this is actually my first of his i've seen. and with admittedly little expectations i was surprised by how emotionally rich and funny and cozy this ended up being. a film about being introduced to your partner's family, with all the awkwardness in full, naturalistic display. genuinely such a refreshing joy to see this, this is slow cinema done right, i adore most of the scenes being filmed in one shot trusting the actors in their ability to carry the scene.

not one i originally planned for but one that was highly recommended by one of the panel members at the queer filmmaking panel a couple days back (i unfortunately can't remember which one recommended it) and wow did this film also deliver. three queer black friends who've known each other since college go on a road trip to find another friend of theirs that has mysteriously left. poetry performances with an added drag show, uncomfortable visits to the friend's ex-girlfriend and parents and existential crises in light of job troubles ensue. funny, even hilarious at points, heartwarming and affirming. we will make it through, no matter how tough the times, if we stick together.
