an upsetting documentary about the survivors of the 1992 neo-nazi arson attack in the town of Mölln, and the mismanagement of the town council who failed to send out hundreds of letters of solidarity addressed to the victims for decades, instead opting to archive them directly without telling the victims. survivor's guilt, long-lasting trust issues and anxiety disorders plague the then children of the Arslan family through their adulthood as they fight to have their voices heard by the city council and the general public.

it's 1975 and a New York photographer describes his day to a writer friend of his. that's all you get, two actors, mostly in one and the same house reenacting a transcript of exact conversation. it's beautifully shot on analogue equipment and it shows and as great as Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall are as actors i couldn't help but get bored with this after the novelty of the concept wore off. in the end it felt like listening to a podcast but with a professional film crew making it look good, maybe interesting if you're invested in the art world of 1970s New York but not much my thing.

wow okay now we're talking, after two kinda mediocre features and one good documentary i finally get a movie that thoroughly impressed me. an overly ambitious adaptation of Richard III. set in the criminal underground of modern-day Berlin with an Iranian refugee woman as Richard. the text is a somewhat modernized german translation of the original text almost to a t, but the visuals are a wild mix that is a Berlin slowly becoming enveloped with imagery of deserts, current wars and theatrical stagings with every further act, losing its grip in reality in a stunning display of expressionistic meta-cinema turning a story that can otherwise be taken entirely literally into one of a woman tormented by the war she fled from only to seek freedom by seizing power among her family by all means necessary even if it means bringing the war to her new home.
