Berlinale day 1
2025-02-13
i got an accreditation to attend the Berlinale this year and as part of that i will essentially go through as much of the programme as i can, i'm putting this up here as a sort of log of my own experiences with this, travelling to Berlin and crashing at a friend's place during the festival while keeping up with planning and getting tickets in time and getting from one theater to the next in time etc. and of course most importantly the movies i'm seeing over the course of this festival.
i'm writing this part a day in advance while on the train to Berlin, as the experience has already begun. when the schedule of the festival was first announced i made a huge plan of what i wanna see and how it all fits together, it took me a full day to prepare so that everything works out. and now, this morning, the first tickets have been made available for people with accreditation and for the first two days i got almost none of the tickets i was planning for. lesson learned, i'll have to roll with the punches. the only ticket i got that i 100% planned for was for the premiere of "Kein Tier. So Wild." on the 14th, all others are movies i had planned for at different days/times or not planned to see at all. i assume this is business as usual to regular attendees at festivals like this but this is my first time at a festival this big and the daily dripfeeding of tickets every morning and having to be so fast to get those important to you is honestly frustrating to see, i know i'll still have a hopefully good time regardless so it's not the biggest of deals but it's making me anxious about getting to see the movies that are top priority to me personally.
format-wise expect this first bit to be me rambling some about my experiences at the festival that lay outside the actual films, so this might become a shorter segment over time if i have less to talk about here i'll see. the reviews themselves are a little scattershot as well as i'm not giving myself much time to write them, i still have to sleep at some point after all, so most of these i'll write while on the train to and from the screenings probably.
i put all my movie reviews in seperate blocks and you can reveal the text by clicking on the arrow in case you don't want to read about any movie in particular. i phrased it as "mild spoilers" because i will write about the plot in some detail although i will generally avoid talking about specific details that might genuinely spoil some notable twists or revelations of the movie.
